Jacob Wesley Horst, age 23, of Plantation, FL, went home to be with Jesus following a fatal car
accident on September 2, 2019.
Jacob was born February 27, 1996 in Marietta, GA, to Geoffrey and Mechelle (Morring) Horst.
He married the love of his life, Felisia Cobas, on June 7, 2019, surrounded by their friends and
family. They welcomed their son, Kayson, into the world a few months earlier in January.
Jacob had a deep love and appreciation for God’s creation. He enjoyed fishing and biking and
loved animals, especially working with horses. Jacob was unafraid of hard work, and always
ready to help out friends, family, and neighbors, especially during hurricane relief efforts in
recent years.
Jacob was incredibly talented and gifted when it came to working with his hands, especially with
metal. He started his own blacksmithing business, JW Metalsmithing, in 2017, handcrafting
beautiful and unique knives and tools.
Jacob was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew him. He had an incredible sense of
humor, and his jokes and antics often had those around him doubled over with laughter. He had
a kind and generous spirit, and would do anything for those he loved. His deep love for Jesus
and his family and friends was evident in how he lived his daily life.
Waiting for Jacob to join him in heaven was his grandfather, “Bubba” Jack Morring.
Jacob is survived by his beloved wife Felisia; their son, Kayson; his parents: Geoffrey and
Mechelle Horst of Plantation, FL; his sister: Jessi Horst of Plantation, FL; two brothers: Samuel
(Katie) Mazard of Oakland, IL; and Steven Cono of Plantation, FL; his grandparents: Jane
Morring of Huntsville, AL; Max and Colene Horst of Huntsville, AL; and several aunts, uncles,
and cousins, whom he dearly loved.
A celebration of Jacob’s life will be held Monday, September 9, 2019 at Community Christian
Church in Tamarac, FL, at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will be held for an hour prior to the service,
beginning at 3:00 p.m. Cowboy hats and boots are welcomed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Jacob’s honor to the Angel Relief
Fund to benefit hurricane relief efforts.
God’s love and peace, His goodness, and His faithfulness has been so evident to the Horst
family during this difficult time, and they are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support
from their friends, church, and community.
