James Dennis Adams Lord, age 92, passed away on December 24, 2019, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after a brief illness. Dennis is survived by his children, Marjorie and son-in-law, Jolyon, of Fort Lauderdale; Dennis and daughter-in-law, Kate of Bonita Springs, Florida; Peggy and son-in-law, Pete of Delaware; Patricia Higgings and son-in-law of Trinidad; his grandchildren, Sabrina, Renee, Nicole, Danielle, Kelly and Zach; and his great-grandchildren, Jahkyah, Christopher, Claire, Marihanna, Martez and Maurice; his brother, William, “Sonny”, Lord; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Thelma, his best friend and love of his life, of 56 years; his grandchildren, Jessica and Angelique; and his siblings, Basil, Edward, Shirley and Iris. Dennis was born on April 27, 1927 in Suddie, Essequibo, Guyana, to parents William and Isabella Lord. He met his future wife, Thelma, when they were 19 and 18 years old, respectively, while in nursing school, they graduated with a degree in Nursing. In 1963, he moved his young family to the United States. He worked in his nursing career for more than 45 years. Dennis was a great family man and a loving father. He married Thelma in 1952 and the couple had three children together. Dennis was a social, active man for the majority of his life. He enjoyed his family, travelling, dancing and experiencing life. His family and friends always remember him as a jovial, loving, fiercely independent person. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on January 4, 2020, at Ralph Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th Street, Plantation, Florida with burial following at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn, 2401 Davie Rd, Davie, Florida. Father Albert Cutie will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dennis’s life. The family would like to thank everyone for your love and support.
