James (Jim) Roomy, 62, of Plantation passed peacefully Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, with his family by his side. Jim was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jack and Ruth Roomy. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jamie, his daughter Erica DeBooth (Brian), son Mark, and grandson Jackson. He is also survived by his brother Bob of Ocala and several nieces and nephews.
Jim spent most of his youth in Schenectady, New York, where he attended Niskayuna High School and was a member of the golf team and manager of the basketball team. Jim treasured the lifelong friendships he developed in high school and enjoyed annual reunions with the “boys”.
Jim had many fond memories of his days playing golf and working as a caddy at the Edison Club.
After graduation Jim went on to Virginia Tech to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an active member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity where he made many more lifelong friends. Jim was proud to be a Virginia Tech Hokie and remained a devoted Hokie football and basketball fan his entire life.
Upon graduation from Virginia Tech, Jim went to work for General Electric as a Sales Engineer. Jim was very proud that he spent his entire 39-year career at GE, where he developed many more longtime friendships before retiring in 2017.
Jim spent time in Kansas City, where he met his wife Jamie and became a Kansas City Royals fan. Together, they moved to Corpus Christi for a short time then on to Minneapolis where their daughter Erica was born. After four long winters they made the move south to Plantation where their family grew to include their son Mark.
Jim’s passion for golf continued and he made many more friends as a 29-year member of Lago Mar Country Club. When not on the golf course, he enjoyed going to horse races, fishing and watching sporting events. Jim also enjoyed traveling with his family and visiting historical sites and national parks.
He was graced with a positive attitude, a penchant for friendship and the gift of gab. Near and dear to Jim’s heart were the many good friends he made over the years. Most of all, he was so proud of his children and was happiest watching football with his daughter,
fishing with his son or playing with his grandson, Jackson.
