Born in Brooklyn, NY, June 16, 1923, Jeanne passed away peacefully on June 29, 2021 at the age of 98 at St. Joseph Assisted Living in Lauderdale Lakes, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Eva Lewis, brother William Lewis, Jr., and her husband of 64 years, Arthur E. Erb.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Stephen Erb (Connie), Priscilla Erb Zenk (Lawrence), and Peter Erb (fiancé Susan).
A devoted wife, mother, and matriarch, she is also survived by 6 Grandchildren: Scott Erb (Jamie), Meredith Spencer (Michael), Thomas Zenk (Kelsie) , David Zenk (Kelley), Adam Erb (Dani), and Theresa Erb; and 10 Great grandchildren, Stephen, Abigail, Anna, Patrick, Emily, Carter, Hudson, Austin, Bennett, and Vivian.
Jeanne was a 1944 graduate from the College of New Rochelle and moved to Plantation Florida in 1956. She was a founding member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church and School (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), and St. Gregory the Great Church and School (Plantation, FL). She was active in the Women’s Club at both churches.
While in college Jeanne showed horses at the National Horse Show and continued riding while living in Panama, and later at stables in Broward County. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends in Plantation.
Jeanne and Arthur loved travel, especially cruising, and visited Europe, Asia, South America, and the Caribbean. The grandchildren have extraordinary memories of a Mississippi river cruise, an Alaskan Cruise, and countless trips to Disney World and Branson, Missouri with their grandparents.
Attending the Broadway theatre shows was always a highlight of Jeanne’s many trips to New York City and she nurtured her love of the theatre by volunteering as Docent at the Broward County Theatre of the Performing Arts. She was also a proud member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants, John Alden Chapter and The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her family cherishes the many birthday and holiday brunch celebrations held at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club where Jeanne and Arthur were members.
A generous loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, known simply as Mom, Grandma, Grannie and Gigi to the family. We miss her kindness, grace, and style. Most of all, we miss her smile and laugh. She will always be a role model to us all.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church in Plantation, FL on Tuesday, July 20th at 11:00 am. Followed by a private burial at the South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL.
Jeanne was a breast cancer survivor of 28 years. In remembrance of her life the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation https://www.komen.org/ or the Alzheimer’s Association https://www.alz.org/.
