Joan Doreen Pastor (nee Connell)
9th January 1930 - 6th January 2021
Joan was born in Westminster, London on 9th January 1930 and died after a long and debilitating illness on the 6th January, 2021. She died at home in Plantation, Florida -four days shy of her 91st birthday.
Joan was the daughter of Londoners, Harry and Violet Connell and sister to Irene, sister-in-law to Francis and aunt to Paul and Deborah.
Joan was happily married to Edward Pastor for 50 years. After meeting and falling in love in London (where Ed was stationed while serving in the US Navy), she moved to the US where they married in Detroit 1945, which was Ed’s home town. They decided to uproot to warmer climes and moved first to Miami and finally settled in Plantation, Fort Lauderdale. Joan enjoyed Florida’s tropical climate and entertainment scene, she loved
travelling, entertaining, swimming, fishing, BBQing and music.
Joan was a loving, smart, strong and organized person who could turn her hand to any task. Her father, Harry, nicknamed her ‘clever-fingers’ because she was so good at making things. She was a loyal, brave and trusted friend and with her sunny nature was always a pleasure to be with.
Joan never had a bad word to say about anyone, had a great sense of humor and was an engaging conversationalist and never complained of her lot in life.
She was a special person, a friend to many and a shining light - a great role model. Joan will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.
