John Henry Behrens

January 18, 1925 — November 22, 2017

John Henry Behrens passed away peacefully in Ft. Lauderdale, FL at age 92 with family members by his side. John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nellie Ann; children, Nancy A., Janelle C., Deborah L., John H. Jr., and Christian E. (Elizabeth); Sisters: Coralie B. Feurtado and Mike K. Hall; Grandchildren: Anne L. (Robbie) Cook, Kyle McMillan, Christian E. Jr., Jordan E. (Steven) November, John  Henry III., Paul (Victoria), and Stephen (Leomaris); Great-grandchildren: Joey, Dylan, and Savannah. John was born on January 18, 1925 in Charleston, SC to John and Minnie Behrens. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps (1st Marine Division 3rd Battalion) during WWII participating in action on Okinawa, Solomon Islands, and China where he received the Presidential Unit Citation. He married Nellie Ann Spell in 1948 and was called back to duty in 1950 for the Korean War while attending the Citadel Military College. He moved to Miami in 1952 to attend the University of Miami and eventually settled and raised his family in Hialeah, FL. He had a 43-year career working for National Airlines, Pan Am, and Delta retiring in 1994 where he was very well known in the Cargo Sales Industry. John dearly loved spending time with his family,attending Lions Club meetings, listening to music, his home town of Charleston, SC, and playing with his dog Behr. Services will be held at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth on December 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM The family would like to thank Hospice of Gold Coast for their care during his final days.In lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Humane Society of Broward County 2070 Griffin Road Ft.
