John "Jay" E. Gallagher, Jr.

" A Great Man"

Jay Gallagher,55, passed away peacefully Friday, August 4, 2023, at his residence in Plantation, Florida. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 22 years, Barbie.

He was born in Lake Forest, Illinois, and relocated with his family to Florida in 1979. He is predeceased by his parents, Lois and John. He attended the University of Florida. He was successfully employed as a furniture sales representative for over twenty years. He was working with several prestigious furniture companies. One was Rene Cazares Furniture, which Jay was very proud to represent and enjoyed working with.   Jay also worked part-time for Learning Disabled adults at Foundation for Independent Living for over fifteen years.

He enjoyed all sports, playing and watching. Jay spent much of his youth and young adult life playing baseball, pitching for his high school team, or playing in local adult leagues. There was never a doubt that he would be watching The Gators play or any Chicago Professional Team. To say Jay was happy the day the Cubs won the World Series would be an understatement. He also enjoyed old movies, growing and pickling vegetables, doing crossword puzzles in ink, all forms of trivia, winning Jeopardy almost every night, hanging out with his friends at The Big Dog, listening to music, and sharing his quick wit. He will always be remembered for his giving personality, spirit for life, and love of his family and friends, and let us not forget the puppies Puddin, Honey, and Coco.

He is survived by his wife, Barbie Gallagher. His sibling's sister Dianne (Bob) Josephs, brother Bill Kiddell, by his mother, sister Gaye (Michael) Bartlett, Suzanne (Kevin) Priest, and predeceased brother James, from his father.

Visitation and Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home. Friends will be received from 4:00 PM – 7PM;  a funeral service will be held at 5:30 PM.  Because of Jay's love for nature and nurturing his garden, flowers are welcomed, but please consider remembering him with a flowering or growing plant.

Jay's life will continue to be celebrated on August 26, 2023. Please join us at the Big Dog Station, 3148 NE 12th Ave, Oakland Park, FL 33334, starting at 3:00 PM.
