John “Bud” M. Kircher, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida. He was born on April 23, 1937, in Escanaba, Michigan, to Merwin and Marie (Bell) Kircher. He was a 1955 graduate of St. Stephen High in Port Huron, where he was a football standout, earning all-county and all-state accolades. John attended Michigan State University, where he played in the Rose Bowl championship game in 1956. He went on to graduate from Northern Michigan University with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in physical education. He was a teacher for 30 years, but his passion was coaching high school football. John coached teams at Killian High School and Cardinal Gibbons High School in Miami, FL. After retiring to Sapphire, NC, he served for 18 years on the Board of the Master Association of Sapphire Valley. He was an avid golfer, enjoying regular weekly rounds with friends and family in Sapphire and Weston for many years. John truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: sharing a drink with his wife, listening to country music, taking dance lessons, rooting for the University of Miami Hurricanes, spending time with friends, and making his grandchildren laugh. John was the best of husbands, fathers and grandfathers. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; his children, Mike (Ana), Cathy (Mike), Jill (Pedro), Tony (Patricia), Sylvia (Mike) and Jeannine (Greg); and 12 grandchildren. A mass in celebration of his life will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1301 SW 136th Avenue in Davie, Florida, Wednesday, June 19 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John’s name to the Broward Outreach Center at www.browardoutreachcenter.org.
