Jose Antonio Portela April 9, 1959 Havana, Cuba - January 1, 2021 Weston, Florida It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jose (JOE) Antonio Portela on January 1, 2021. Joe passed away peacefully from Glioblastoma Brain Cancer, with his loving wife, Karim Portela, and his family by his side. Joe will be forever remembered by Karim, his loving wife of 26 years; by his mother,Vivian Rodriguez Fabar; his mother in law, Ana Kearson (Gary), by his brothers Raul Portela (Marie) and Enrique Portela (Lynn); by his sister, Vivian Portela Buscher (John); by his nephews John Bayliss (Sonia), Michael Bayliss (Chelsea),by his godson, Joseph Portela, Nicolas Portela, and Raul Portela; by his nieces Jacqueline Bayliss, and Vivian Portela; by his Goddaughter, Joan Portela; by his five great nieces and nephews; by his many, many dear friends; and last, but certainly not least, by Stella, his sweet puppy. Joe was pre-deceased by his father Raul Portela and his nephew Robert Bayliss. A celebration of JOE will be held On June 12 in the Florida Keys JOE, a builder/developer, grew up in Westchester, and recently lived in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Joe was loved by many, as a great and loyal friend, as a brother, and as a husband. JOE always had a smile on his face, especially when he was fishing, boating, golfing, cooking, and EATING. JOE loved the water, the Dallas Cowboys, Christopher Columbus School, golfing and fishing with friends and family, Deck the Balls, the “Westchester Classic”, The Stampede, and Tobacco Road (not necessarily in that order). A charity will be set up In Joe's name to fund further research into Glioblastoma Cancer Research and Family Support. Joe's family wishes to send a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Miami Cancer Institute for their care, and to Joe's hospice nurse, Peter Nwous, for his own compassionate care.
