Josefina A. Serrano, devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and longtime resident of Elgin, Illinois, died peacefully on April 15, 2020, surrounded by loved ones in Sunrise, Florida.
Josefina is survived by her children, Graciela S. Macias, Salvador Serrano, Jr., Luz Maria Villar, Rosa E. Martinez, Jose A Serrano, Martha E Salazar, and Baudelio Serrano; her sisters, Guadalupe Aldana, and Paulina Aldana; 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Serrano; son, Gilberto Serrano; her sisters, Maria de los Angeles Aldana, Ana Maria Aldana; her brothers Jesus Aldana, Enrique Aldana, and Ruben Aldana; her parents, Mercedes Gonzalez Tavares, and Rosalio Aldana Aldana.
Josefina was born on June 3, 1926, in El Ahito, Jalisco, Mexico; was married on June 9, 1943 to Salvador Serrano in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. In September of 1965 they moved to the USA seeking a better life and better opportunities for their kids They left their rural Mexican town of Matanzas, Jalisco with their 8 children, leaving family, friends and all they had known. Josefina was a traditional homemaker who also enjoyed gardening and knitting; was blessed with a full life and enjoyed her time with family. She will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who knew her.
A private service was held in T. M. Ralph Funeral Home Sawgrass/Weston on April 19, 2020. Once it is safe, and travel restrictions are lifted, her urn and family will travel to her final resting place in Matanzas, Jalisco, Mexico.
