Josephine (Joyce) Grady was born on January 28, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. She died on March 5, 2021 at Westside Regional Hospital in Plantation. Joyce, her late husband, John, and children relocated to Florida in 1972 by taking a 65-day tug and barge journey from Cleveland to Ft. Lauderdale. She was involved in Grady Marine Construction Inc., a prominent marine business that has been a fixture in Broward County for nearly 50 years and worked as the office manager for many years. Her diagnosis of a progressive form of muscular dystrophy at the age of 20 never slowed her down and her spirit was bright and uplifting. She did not dwell on her physical limitations and was an excellent communicator, known for her handwritten notes and efforts to stay in touch with others. Joyce was an incredible mom to John (Marci) of Ft. Lauderdale, Colleen of Plantation, Peter (Kelly) of Plantation and Luke Joseph, who died in childbirth. She loved her grandkids (Luke, David, Alex, Nick, Carol, Peter, Jr., Andrew and Christopher) and was their biggest fan. She is also survived by brothers in law, sisters in law, and many nieces and nephews. A devout Catholic, Joyce was active in St. Gregory’s parish since her arrival to Florida, serving as President of the Women’s Guild and organizing various events during her time there. Joyce and her husband John were married for 44 years at the time of his death in 2011. Joyce was also predeceased by her parents and her three sisters, Janat, Marsha and Mary Jane. She will be missed and remembered by many. A funeral mass at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church on Saturday June 12, 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Lauderdale Memorial Cemetery.
