Josette Joachim Laratte of Sunrise, Florida passed away in Tucker, Georgia on April 26, 2020 at the age of 85 after a brief illness. A teacher by training, she also owned and operated a family hardware store and radio station in her native Cap-Haitien, Haiti. She was divorced from and preceded in death by her former husband Brulart Laratte. She was a strong woman who weathered many changes in her lifetime between the United States and Haiti. It was her children, however, that became her focus after marriage, sacrificing herself to ensure their success in life. While she was strict, she made it clear that it was all for their benefit. The result are a man and a woman who both earned advanced degrees and serve their communities. Her son, Lionel Laratte is an elected municipal official in Georgia and daughter Nadine is a registered nurse working on the front lines of the fight against the current pandemic. Lionel and Nadine thank her for instilling an unwavering work ethic, a love of education and the desire for success in them. Her encouragement and confidence in their endeavors will be missed. In addition to Josette’s son and daughter, she is survived by daughter-in-law Kathryn Wilson along with grandsons Billy Belk and Alain Laratte.
