Ms. Joy Valerie Bernard (née Scott), of Lauderhill, Florida, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the age of 71.
Joy was born to parents Egbert “Bosie” Scott and Olive May Smith on October 16, 1946, in Kingston, Jamaica. At a young age, Joy was taught the importance of helping others, as she observed her grandparents work with the Salvation Army in both Jamaica & Panama.
These roots inspired Joy to dedicate her life to serving others. In 1975, Joy emigrated from Jamaica to the United States to receive formal training to become an au pair—a profession she held for over 30 years. In 2008, Joy returned to school to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Throughout the course of her career, as both an au pair & CNA, Joy cared for numerous children and families, providing love and support at all times.
Joy is survived by a large, loving family & many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Egbert and Olive.
A memorial service will be held At TM Ralph Funeral Home in Plantation, Florida on Tuesday, September 25 at 11:30 a.m. Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial service to commemorate the life of Joy Bernard.
