On January 30, 2020 Julia Ann (Backelant) McDonald went to be with the Lord at the age of 81 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Throughout her life, Julie cultivated and nurtured many roles in her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in law, sister, and friend. She was known for her infectious smile, her quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor, and her kind and compassionate spirit. Julie was born on March 15, 1938 in Detroit Michigan. She attended Immaculata High School, after which she went on to pursue a career in nursing at the Providence Nursing School in Detroit.
Julie met her husband (Gerald T. McDonald) during that time. They married February 7, 1959. They were devoted to each other for 50 years before Jerry preceded her in death in 2008. Together, they were blessed with four children: Mary (Kevin) Kueser, Mike (Colleen) McDonald, Jane (Jeff) Roberts, and John McDonald. Julie was a cherished and beloved grandmother to her ten grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Katie, Danny & Allison Kueser, Bryan & Elizabeth Roberts, Emily & Jack McDonald, and Lynn, Leah & Laura Williams. During Julie’s career, she used her degree for home health and psychiatric nursing at Henderson Mental Health Center, the Alzheimer’s Association, and the National Parkinson’s Foundation. She spent the last years of her career marketing outpatient rehabilitation services to Parkinson’s patients. Julie was a dedicated nurse with enormous compassion for others. Her family would like to offer their sincerest gratitude to all of the caregivers that touched Julie’s life these last years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julia’s memory may be made to the Lew Body Dementia Association, www.LBDA.org.
