Karem Jackson Gamez

Karem Jackson Gamez, a beloved mother, and a beacon of joy, passed away on July 31, 2024, in Aventura, Florida. She was born in Bluefields Nicaragua on June 27, 1958, to Maria de Jesus Machado Cordoba and Elmer Jackson Ocampo.

At the young age of 18, Karem welcomed her first child Shaira with then husband Tomas Rafael Gamez, followed by Karen, Mishelle and Rafael A., respectably.

In 1986, Karem embarked on a journey of courage and sacrifice when she made the difficult decision to leave her family and homeland in search of better opportunities for herself and her children in the United States. It was here that she found her calling as a home health aide, a profession she pursued passionately until her last breath. Karem's empathy and kindness shone brightly as she cared for the elderly, cherishing their life stories and offering a helping hand whenever needed.

Karem's essence radiated warmth and positivity. Her role as a mother was paramount to her being. She had a remarkable gift for spreading happiness to those around her and instilling the belief that anything was possible. Known for her altruistic nature, Karem extended her generosity not only to strangers on the streets but also tirelessly organized aid efforts to support her native Bluefields, Nicaragua.

Karem is survived by her adoring mother, Maria de Jesus Machado Cordoba; her children Rafael Gamez, Mishelle Gamez, Karen Gamez, and Shaira Jean-Gilles along with her husband Woody; and her honorary daughter Marisela Reinor. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren James Anthony, Liorah Dorothy, Antonio Glenwood, Aristes Alexander, Caleb Joseph as well as her great-grandchild Zoe Alexandra. Orlando Barberena shared a deep bond with Karem as her life partner - steadfastly supporting each other through life's myriad ups and downs.

She also leaves behind a large and loving family, including brothers, sisters, honorary siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, honorary nieces and nephews, and a multitude of lifelong friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

A visitation to honor Karem's life will take place at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home in Plantation, Florida on August 9th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 9:30AM, at Saint Gregory Catholic Church. Following Mass, a second visitation will be held at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Saturday.

Karem Jackson Gamez will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched with her compassion and love. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that her spirit of kindness lives on in those she leaves behind.
