Kathleen Mae Smith

February 16, 1947 — October 25, 2018

Kathleen (Kathy) Mae Smith entered into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, 25 October 2018 after a two-year battle with liver cancer, at the age of 71. Kathy, also known as Wife, Mom, Grandma, and Aunt, lived in Davie, Florida with her husband of nearly 52 years, James (Jim) Smith. Kathy was born on 16 February 1947 to John and Ruth Steward Cleveland, Ohio. She married Jim in a small ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio on 04 March 1967. In high school, Kathy was an intramural athlete in girl’s field hockey, a member of the Girl’s Athletic Association, in the All-city Orchestra, German Club, and acapella group. In addition to being well-rounded in her extracurricular activities, academics was a priority for her and she was a member of the National Honor Society. Kathy went on to receive a full scholarship to Baldwin Wallace Conservatory of Music. Kathy was a fabulous violinist. For her career, Kathy was a “lifer” with the Bell Telephone system, beginning her career at Ohio Bell and finishing it at AT&T (formerly Bell South) in Florida for a total of 40 years. Kathy is beloved by everyone who meets her. She has a deep love for Jesus. She and Jim have been active in their home church, Calvary Lighthouse UNITED, in Davie for many years. She also has a wicked sense of humor. Kathy was a joker and if you held your arm out a window, say to hand something to someone, she might come by and bite you – just ask some of her nieces and nephews. Her friends knew her as loyal and supportive, someone who you could call and talk to about anything. She also is the best grandmother ever and simultaneously doted on her grandson while encouraging him to take school seriously and respect his momma. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Jim of Davie, FL, her daughter, Tabitha Westbrook of Raleigh, NC, her son, Aaron Smith of Davie, FL, and her grandson, Isaiah Westbrook of Raleigh, NC. Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Ruth Steward and her two brothers, Johnny and George Steward. As a family, Kathy, Jim, Tabitha, Aaron, and Isaiah believe that Kathy’s last breath on earth was her first breath in heaven where she was welcomed by our Savior, Jesus. As such, services are a Homegoing for her and a “see you later” for her family in Christ. Service details are as follows: Visitation:  Saturday, November 3, 2018;  2:00 PM - 5:00 PM  at T. M.
