Kathy Skaggs Ambrose

January 23, 1955 — February 21, 2021

Kathy Skaggs Lamb Ambrose, 66, of Sunrise, FL, reunited with her loved ones who passed before her, on February 21, 2021. Kathy was born on January 23, 1955 in Norfolk, VA to Frances and Allen A. Skaggs and raised in Louisville, KY before moving with her parents to Pompano Beach, FL in 1970. In 1973, Kathy joined the United States Army, where she served as a WAC as a Military Police Officer. That was one accomplishment that she was always so proud of. In 1975, Kathy was given an honorable discharge from the Army, which was what they did at the time, when she gave birth to her first daughter, Melissa Jean. Kathy raised Missy as a single mother, while also working for the Lauderhill Police Department and working towards getting her Associate of Arts Degree from Broward Community College in Criminal Justice. In 1980, she started what would be her lifelong career at the Broward Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, FL, starting as a 911 Operator. Years later, she was promoted to the Civil Division as a Civil Deputy. This is the period of her career when this fantastic soul, saved the life of a 5 year old boy who had drowned by performing CPR. Towards the end of her beloved BSO career, she briefly worked in the Records Department before being forced to retire early due to Lupus and COPD in 2005. In 1986, she ended meeting a man who would end up being the love of her life. Although a few years younger than herself, Michael knew that Kathy was “the one”. It didn’t take long for the two of them to get married and in 1987, Kathy gave birth to her second daughter, Katelyn Michelle. During the 26 years that she worked at BSO, and the 2 years she worked at the Lauderhill Police Department, she had no problem making friends in which she quickly was awarded the nickname ‘Lambchop’ by her fellow coworkers. You never found her without a smile on her face and she had the most infectious laugh imaginable. And gave the best hugs too. Kathy loved her daughters, Missy and Katie, and husband Michael more than anything. She loved her sisters (and best friends), Iris and Betty. She just loved all of her family and her friends very dearly. She was a devoted wife to Michael of Sunrise, FL, and the most incredible and loving mother to Melissa Pulido (Armando Pulido) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Katelyn Ambrose of Sunrise, FL. She also leaves behind her sisters Elizabeth Hayes (Wallace Hayes) of Savannah, GA and Iris Hatfield (Charles Hatfield) of Dublin, OH, 1 niece, 2 nephews, 1 great-nephew, 5 great-nieces and a doggy granddaughter and a kitty granddaughter as well. Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, Allen A. Skaggs Jr. “Skip”, as well as her beloved parents, Frances and Allen A. Skaggs. A Private Memorial service will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at TM Ralph Funeral Home in Plantation, FL In lieu of flowers, we ask that any donations be made in Kathys honor to the Lupus Foundation of America Southeast Chapter. 2300 High Ridge Rd Ste 375 Boynton Beach, FL 33426 (561) 275- 8606 https://www.lupus.org/fl/donate
