Laura Leneé Guthrie was born on January 25, 1947 in Berrien Springs, Michigan to Robert and Betty Guthrie. On June 12, 1967, she married John Randal Vaucher and they were married for 44 years until his death in 2011.
After moving to Panama in 1969, they had four children. She was simultaneously a full-time wife and mother while she worked with John building and running auto parts and computer import businesses. She was also an exemplary employee at Army Air Force Exchange Services and a faithful and active member of the Balboa Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
In 1988 the family relocated to Plantation, Florida where John and Leneé established a computer systems business. She became an integral member at the Plantation Seventh-day Adventist Church; volunteering as assistant to the Church Treasurer. As Secretary at the Sawgrass Adventist School for 17 years, she was beloved by students and faculty alike. Upon her retirement, it was stated that “Mrs. Vaucher is the glue that kept this school together for so many years.”
Leneé loved singing and music. She also enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, masterminding home improvement projects, solving crosswords, piecing puzzles, playing board games (Scrabble), bird watching, and growing African violets. A resourceful Jill-of-all-trades, she was a DIY carpenter, an excellent seamstress, and a crafter of handmade gifts.
Known for her warmth and hospitality, she was ready with a home-cooked meal. Her home was open to guests, who could stay as long as they needed. Leneé’s strong faith and generous love were on display in the acceptance and kindness she showed everyone.
She was devoted to her family. She tenderly and steadfastly cared for John through his Alzheimer’s illness and her children never outgrew her unconditional love, which she also extended to her sons-in-law and grandsons.
Down to earth and pragmatic, Leneé approached life’s victories and challenges with an even stride. For over a decade, she was a person with Parkinson’s, and even when gravely ill, she still had her beautiful smile, sense of humor, and concern for her loved ones’ well-being.
Her family and friends will miss the sparkle in her eye, her easy laughter, her brilliant sense of humor, her exceptionally quick wit, and her unusual common sense.
Leneé was predeceased by her husband, John, her brothers Derwin and Burton Guthrie and her brother-in-law Gary Vaucher. She is survived by her children, Sandra Vaucher (David Yon), Susan Andersen (Ryan), Cheryl Vaucher Lopez (Daniel), and James Vaucher; grandchildren Lucas and Dane Andersen; brothers Stephen (Marge) and Edward Guthrie; mother-in-law Shirley Vaucher; brother-in-law Russell Vaucher (Cindy), sister-in-law Daisy Vaucher, and many nieces and nephews.
