Margaret Joan Panebianco

August 5, 1932 — September 12, 2018

Margaret Joan Panebianco, 87, of Plantation Florida left us on Wednesday Sept 12, 2018.  She was born August 5, 1932 in Queens, New York City to John & Josephine (Milazzo) DeSantis.  Margaret went to Bishop McDonnell High School in New York City, a remarkable all girls Catholic school —remarkable for their encouragement of careers for their female students at that time and place-- and she went on to graduate college from the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she became a very successful milliner, like her mother & grandmother before her. Margaret also taught hat design at FIT.

She always said she won the lottery the day she married Joseph Marco Panebianco, the love of her life: They were married 51 years, until Joseph passed away a decade ago, and she missed & mourned him but continued to embrace life, spending time with her family and friends, arguing politics, enjoying the culinary world and traveling a bit, but only to warm places!  She loved art & fashion & design of course, traveling, cruises, dancing, yoga, tennis, crossword puzzles and professional ice skating, always on top of the latest great skaters. She was a dyed in the wool Democrat, kept up on absolutely all the news, and loved her Amazon Fire Stick with a passion because she was able to stream shows from all over the world, Italian shows, French shows, Swedish shows, German shows especially shows with glimpses of places she never got to, like Iceland and the Australian Outback, and she fell in love with the Detective Endeavor Morse. Margaret loved music: opera AND rock & roll.  She was an early teen fan of Frank Sinatra, very proud that she & her friends would go to the Paramount in NYC and hide in the bathroom stalls to be able to catch both of his evening sets, and they never got caught.  Margaret was blessed with a lovely voice, and she happily entertained her exercise group and friends & family with hundreds of songs for every occasion that she always remembered the lyrics to. She was wildly entertained by her son & daughter-in-law’s doggies Willi & Shuggie. Margaret was recently quite fascinated but not surprised to learn from Ancestory, com that her DNA revealed she was 100% Italian, overwhelmingly from the Southern region of Sicily.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Juliet Panebianco, and her loving son Nicol John Panebianco & his wife Lisa Krouse Panebianco, her loving nephew Douglas Libby, his wife Irene, their two sons Christopher and John for whom she also lovingly served as “Aunt Marge”, and a loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews among them Francine Fazio and Paul Billeci. She will be forever missed by her devoted family, friends and all who knew this extraordinary woman. .

Visitation with the Panebianco Family is scheduled at our Plantation funeral home, Wednesday, from 5-8 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow Thursday, 2 PM, at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Plantation.
