Margaret Scharfenberger, age 98, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 1st at her home in Weston, Florida. Margaret was born on August 23, 1924 in Forest Hills, New York to Robert and Grace Fredericks. She was the second of three children. Her older brother was also named Robert (Bob) and her younger sister was named Elizabeth (Betty). She married the love of her life Gerard (Jerry) Scharfenberger in 1946 in Forest Hills, NY. Although never having children of her own she was a very loved aunt to her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Margaret and her husband Jerry spent the first significant part of their married life together living in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas for approximately 45 years before moving to Weston, Florida 31 years ago when Jerry retired from his career as an aeronautical engineer. They moved to Florida for one primary reason; to be near her family members who lived in Weston. Margaret was someone who was really interested in life and the people and things around her. She loved nothing more than to have both simple or in-depth conversations with her friends and family on any number of topics. She was constantly curious. She and Jerry were true animal lovers and fully enjoyed the German Schnauzers that they owned throughout their life together. Marge and Jerry spent the remainder of their very meaningful lives with the family she loved, neighbors who enriched her life and the many friends she had made at St Bonaventure Catholic Church. She was a very consistent presence at St Bonaventure throughout her life in southern Florida. Her Catholic faith was incredibly important to her. Father Ed Prendergast and the congregation at large provided her with the kind of comfort that she needed on the death of Jerry in 2006. Besides her beloved husband, the most important constant in her life was her younger sister Betty. They were extremely close, being together or in daily contact with each other by phone. Some of Margaret’s best memories were celebrating the holidays, birthdays and anniversaries with Betty, Betty’s children and Betty’s grandchildren. Boisterous conversation and laughter were the hallmarks of the many dinners and other events spent together. She was a good sister and a wonderful and thoughtful aunt. Margaret is survived by her sister Betty Williams, Betty’s children and grandchildren as well as her brother Bob’s children and grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and friends alike. Visitation will be at TM Ralph Funeral Home at 371 NW 136th Ave in Sunrise, FL, Thursday, January 5th, 2023, from 3-5pm. Please join us in a celebration of her life on Friday, January 6th, 2023 at 12:00 noon at St Bonaventure Catholic church, 1301 SW 136th Ave, Davie, FL.
