Maria Magdalena Flores, 89, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024. Born on May 29, 1935, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Maria was one of twelve children to the late Santiago and Tomasa Cruz. Maria came to Brooklyn, New York in 1958, where she worked as a seamstress for many years. Married Pedro Flores on April 30, 1960 and had two children, Pedro Jr. and Belinda. In 1974, the family moved to Brownsville, Brooklyn, where Maria became the live-in Caretaker and Custodian for Risen Christ Lutheran Church until her retirement in 1998. During her retirement, she spent her time taking care of her Grandkids – Christopher, Peter, and Stephanie. She also volunteered to be a classroom granny, when she lived in Atlantic City, New Jersey for two years.
Maria is survived by her Daughter Belinda Aguilar (nee Flores), her Grandchildren Christopher Flores, Peter Flores and Stephanie Aguilar, her Brother David and Sister Luz, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Maria was preceded in death by her son, Pedro Flores Jr.
Maria loved to sing, dance, garden, but she really loved to cook. We’re all going to miss her Pernil and Arroz con Gandules. Maria’s warmth and generosity extended beyond her loved ones. She will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune to know her.
