Maria Zulueta, our beloved “Ama,” departed her loving family at the age of 90 years old in Weston, Florida on September 14, 2021. She was born to the late Antonio Zulueta and Dolores “Lola” Arza in Bilbao, Spain on August 28, 1931, and lived a remarkable life in the Basque Country, Venezuela, and finally the United States. Ama was preceded in death by her beloved husband “Aita” and son Joseba. Ama is survived by her daughter Miren, son-in-law Nelson, and daughter-in-law Marietta. She is survived by four grandchildren: Katherine and spouse Johnny, Alejandro and spouse Aina, Denisse and spouse Kevin, and Beatriz; and four great-grandchildren: Zurina, Anderson, Sirena, and Leo. She is also survived by her youngest sister MariAngeles and spouse Antonio as well as her cousin Jesus and spouse Marga. Ama was a warrior and a fighter. She loved her family unconditionally and brought smiles to our faces with her witty sense of humor. She never wavered in her faith, serving as an exemplary member of the Catholic church. She loved reading and writing and telling the many stories of her experiences in this life. She often watched the birds fly and the squirrels run through the backyard. She loved flowers and putting perfume on before having her picture taken. What she most enjoyed was spending time with her family and pampering her grandkids and great-grandkids, and she often joked about dancing with them when her Parkinson’s made her wiggly. She was beautiful, joyful, and understanding, always willing to help her family. A great person and the matriarch of the wonderful family that’s gathered here today in her honor. Member of the St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church Friends will be received on Friday from 1 to 3 PM at the T.M. Ralph Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church at 4:00PM. Her urn will be placed at Our Lady of Mercy at a later date. You may use this link to view the funeral mass.
