Mark James Hickman, aged 66, of Cooper City, FL went home to be with Jesus following a heart attack on September 11, 2019.
Mark was born October 8th, 1952 in Torrance, CA to Allen and Henrietta Hickman. Mark moved to Hawaii in the early 70’s where he married his first wife, Julie and they had a son, Matthew Jesse Hickman, who was born on October 7, 1980 in Maui, Hawaii.
While there, he met his current wife, Linda Martine Hickman. Their first interaction was over a dead mouse in Linda’s apartment and Cupid’s arrow hit them both hard. They married on October 8th, 1989 to ensure Mark would never forget his wedding anniversary. His daughter, Leilani Evelyn Hickman, was born on July 4th, 1991 arriving 6 ½ weeks earlier than expected. Mark loved his wife and children and he loved God.
If you look up the word “gregarious” in the dictionary, you will find Mark’s picture. His most defining characteristic was his ability to make friends anywhere he went – everyone knows who Mark is. He had a deep and abiding faith that helped him through some very difficult times in his early life and he was always ready to lend someone a helping hand.
Mark struggled with heart-related health issues for two decades and consequently made sure to live his life to the fullest making connections with people and taking every opportunity he could to go golfing and fishing with friends. Since 1994, he was a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he found strength and purpose through his faith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Martine Hickman and their daughter, Leilani Evelyn Hickman; his son, Matthew Hickman (Tanya) and his granddaughter, Mia Hickman; his grandson, Christian James “CJ” Hickman; and his brother, Arthur Hickman.
A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Weston, FL at 2:00 PM. Mark wanted us to celebrate his life. He brought positivity, humor, and love everywhere he went. We know he would want us to honor him in the same way. We ask everyone to please wear bright colors in honor of his Aloha spirit and don’t forget, as Mark would want us to remember “GOD LOVES YOU AND SO DO I”!
