Matthew Zidar, 72, passed away on December 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and community. Born on August 31, 1952, in Miami, Florida, Matt’s life was defined by his selflessness, generosity, and deep sense of duty to others. Above all, he was devoted to his wife of 50 years, Debbie, as well as his children and grandchildren, always putting them first and creating a foundation of love and support that will be cherished by his family forever. Matt’s parents and siblings were also a central part of his life, and the love and guidance he received from them shaped the man he became.
A dedicated FireFighter Paramedic for the City of Dania Beach, Matt was honored as Fire Fighter of the Year. His leadership extended beyond his career, serving as President of the local Firefighter Union, where his dedication to his colleagues earned him the respect and admiration of all who worked with him. Matt’s passion for helping others was evident not only in his profession but in every facet of his life.
Matt attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, where he formed lasting friendships and a foundation for the remarkable life he would go on to lead.
Known for his generosity, humor, and kindness, Matt’s personality was as vibrant as his heart. He took immense pride in his family and was married to the love of his life, Debbie, for 50 wonderful years. Their partnership was a true testament to love, loyalty, and devotion. As a father and Pop-pop, Matt cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, creating countless memories filled with joy and laughter. A gifted storyteller and jokester, he had a way of making everyone feel special and loved.
Matt’s relationship with his friends was just as important as that with his family. He was the kind of person who made friends wherever he went, forming lasting bonds through his warmth and generosity. His friends were like family to him, and he was always there to offer support, share a laugh, or offer a helping hand.
Matt’s passion for life extended beyond his work and family. He loved fishing, often spending hours on the water with family and friends. His musical talent was another source of joy—he could often be found strumming his guitar and filling the air with music. Every encounter with Matt was an opportunity to share a laugh, a story, an embrace, and a good cup of coffee.
Among his proudest accomplishments was his devotion to his family. Matt was a loving son, husband, father, brother, Pop-pop, father-in-law, and uncle. He was also a wonderful son-in-law, always treating his in-laws with the same love and respect he showed his own family. His legacy is not only found in his professional achievements but in the deep and lasting love he shared with his family, whose lives he touched in countless meaningful ways.
