Michael John Malloy, 81, of Hollywood, FL and formerly of Ingleside, IL, passed peacefully at home on April 1st, 2021 with family by his side. Devoted husband, companion, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, Mike was a gracious host and always ready to lend a helping hand to all and lighten the mood with his humor.

“Corky,” as he was called during childhood, was born on June 17th, 1939 in Pontiac, MI. He moved with parents, John and Mary (Kathleen)Malloy, sister Judy (McCabe) and brother Patrick to the Chicago area and studied business at Loyola University.  On September 23, 1961 he married his sweetheart, Katherine D. Travaglio who preceded him in death in 2010. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Ronald (Marsha), Donald (Lisa) and Mark (Susan) along with five grandchildren (Michael, Mark, Melissa, Alexis and Jonathan) and four great-grandchildren (Leah, Cooper, Holden, Caralynn); cousins, Willis and Gary Swensen and Kay Milburn; and many nieces and nephews.  He is further survived by his companion of 10 years, Bess Duncum of Hollywood, FL.

As co-owner of Christ Building Materials and later as sales managers for various packaging machinery companies, Mike was a tireless worker and skillful salesman. Prior to retiring, he enjoyed working for Calico Corners, keeping their stores supplied with fabric and fellow employees supplied with cheer and laughter.  Mike will always be remembered as a baker who loved to make, deliver and ship desserts to neighbors, local businesses, coworkers, friends and family.

Mike was a member of St. Bede’s Catholic Church, Fox Lake, IL. Additionally, he was an avid volunteer, speaker and fundraiser for multiple breast cancer organizations.

There will be a graveside service, Saturday, May 15th, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.  The time of the service will be shared at a later date.

His family is requesting that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin or Rush University Medical Center Breast Cancer Research Fund.
