Michael Alfred McCormack, a longtime Plantation Acres resident, was born July 26, 1948, and peacefully passed away November 19, 2021, at the age of 73. He left behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Donna Marie McCormack, their daughters and sons-in-law: Melanie Ann and James DeMar III and Michelle Marie and Ryan Johns, and six incredible grandchildren: James DeMar IV, Madisyn Urquhart, Mikayla Johns, Andrew Johns, Stella DeMar, and Logan DeMar. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Francis X. McCormack Sr, and his younger brother, Francis X. McCormack Jr. He leaves behind his sisters, Dr. Anna Patricia Krupkin and Katherine Kataisto, and brother, Terrence McCormack.
Michael was born in Fayetteville, NC, and as an Army “brat”, he and his family moved all over the globe. He graduated high school in Ankara, Turkey and attended Boston College, where he played basketball. He went on to earn his Master's Degree with high honors from Babson College. Michael served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and relocated to Florida in 1979. One of Michael's biggest passions was his banking career, which began in 1968 and continued until the day he passed away. He was exceptionally proud to be part of the City National Bank of Florida “family” serving as Senior Vice President, Director of Wholesale Risk.
Michael loved his family beyond words, and he was always involved in everything that they did. When his daughters were young, he even joined them in Equestrian Competitions. After the girls were married and started families, much to his family's amusement, Michael chose his grandfather call-name to be "The Man". As a much-loved grandfather, Michael enjoyed family vacations in Marco Island, where he would enjoy boating and fishing with all the grandchildren. The remainder of his leisure time was spent quietly growing bonsai trees at home.
Based on Michael’s passion for mentoring others and his constant quest to enhance his leadership skills, the family’s desire is to continue his legacy by establishing a scholarship to benefit graduate students who are attending Babson College in Miami. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to THE MICHAEL A. McCORMACK MBA’77 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND, Babson College, Office of Advancement, 231 Forest Street, Babson Park, MA 02457. Additionally, Michael’s bonsai trees will be donated to Flamingo Gardens in Davie, Florida to be part of the bonsai education classes that are taught there.
An in-person funeral service will not be held, however, a celebration of life video is being discussed for future posting to this website.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael A. McCormack Memorial Scholarship Fund at Babson College using the link below:
