Michael "Mike" Lee Lutz, 79, of Plantation Florida, returned to his heavenly home on January 4, 2021 after a valiant battle with COVID-19. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him during his illness and ultimately gave him peace.
Mike was born to the late Carlton and Dorothy Lutz, a retired Naval Officer and a homemaker respectively, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on January 18, 1941. While growing up, Mike moved between San Diego California and his home state of Pennsylvania due to his father’s naval service. He graduated from the Williamsport Area High School in 1959 where he met his wife, Virginia Lee Worthington, of 56 years.
Mike and Virginia eloped on their prom night and were married on May 10, 1959. They were blessed with two children, Greggory Michael and Kelly Lynn. From the beginning, they dreamed of living in a warmer climate. After a vacation to Fort Lauderdale in the late 1960s, they set a goal to live there someday. Over the years, Mike sought out opportunities that would take the family further south. He often volunteered to relocate with that goal in mind. In 1977, his dream was finally realized when he was offered a job in South Florida.
Mike and Virginia also dreamed of starting their own business and decided to obtain their Real Estate License. In the early 1980s, Virginia opened A Tropic Realty. The business quickly expanded which led Mike to join his wife in the family business. Mike focused on the startup of a second company dedicated to property and association management. For over 30 years, both businesses have served the South Florida community and blessed Mike with many lifelong friendships.
Mike is survived by his son, Gregg Lutz; his daughter Kelly Truniger-Lutz; his grandchildren Max Truniger, and Markus Truniger; and his sisters, Dee Ennis and Laura Clapp. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; and both of his parents.
A virtual funeral service is planned for Tuesday, January 26, at 11am EST. Reverend Kathy Nolasco of Plantation United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Mike will be laid to rest at the Boca Raton Mausoleum following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Mike’s memory to the Feeding South Florida COVID-19 Resources fund. An online fundraising page has been established in Mike’s memory and is located at https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/gregg-lutz-1/COVID-19-Fundraising-Page.
