Michael G. “Mike” Mauer of Plantation passed away on October 11th, his 91st birthday, in Melbourne, FL after a cardiac arrest. Mike was born 10/11/27 in Kansas City, MO to his parents who predeceased him, Michael G. and Ruby Kelly Mauer. He is also predeceased by his devoted wife of 57 years, Janet, who passed away 10/4/17, and his dear “little sister,” Patricia Marie Baar. Mike was a child of the depression and a proud member of the Greatest Generation, who served his country in both the Merchant Marines during WWII and then the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a natural born engineer long before his formal education at KU. He could fix most anything often making the part needed to do so and enjoyed helping others with repairs. Mike relocated to Miami in 1953 and never left South FL, building a house in Plantation Acres in 1973, which was his final home. He worked as an engineer for over 50 years in the window and building industry in South FL. Upon retirement from his first career, he went to work “for fun” as an usher and security at Bank Atlantic Center, Joe Robbie Stadium, as he always called it, as well as other stadiums and arenas in the area. He leaves behind his loving and beloved only daughter, Lisa Mauer of Deerfield Beach, his oldest friend of 77 years, Roger Bridewell, his niece, Linda Thompson (Carl), three nephews, Ken (Kate) Baar, Dan (Chris) Baar, and Gordon (Sue) Baar, his “other daughter” Veronique La Roche Toomes and his son from a brief and early marriage, Lee (Debbie) Mauer, as well as many close friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions:In memory of Michael Mauer to the Nursing Excellence program which provides scholarships for bachelors degrees for RN's.
