Mikayla Riley Detrich, 19, lovingly known as “Butterfly and KaylaBug”, passed away April 20, 2022.
She was born to Brian Detrich and Lisa Ryan-Swartz and a bonus daughter to Michael Swartz. She is survived by her parents and three older brothers: Ryan Detrich, married to Maria Detrich, Taylor Detrich, and C.J. Detrich, significant other Jackie Rodriguez. She was an amazing “Aunt Lala” to Landon Detrich (son to Taylor Detrich and Lauren Gauna) and Thea Detrich (daughter to Ryan & Maria Detrich). Granddaughter of Joseph Ryan, married to Pat Lacey. Her loving godparents are Mike Ryan and Shirlie Ryan. She was also a wonderful “fur-Mom” to Jax. She also survived by her many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kayla was born in Michigan on May 15, 2002 but was raised in South Florida. Kayla attended Nob Hill Elementary School, Bair Middle School, and graduated from Piper High School in the Class of 2020. Mikayla was a member of multiple travel cheerleading teams and played basketball at many different levels throughout her school years. Kayla worked in multiple fields from a Publix employee to different positions in the City of Sunrise including in the Compassion Center, and most recently accounting for Health Genesis. Kayla ultimately aspired to be a paramedic as she enjoyed helping others.
Mikayla enjoyed traveling with friends and family, listening to music, watching the sunset, facetiming friends, and being on a boat. Mikayla loved her family above all else. Mikayla loved cooking and Netflix with her mom, dinner and breakfast dates with her dad, sports and videogames with her brothers, Fortnite challenges with her nephew, and selfies with her niece. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Kayla will be most remembered by her goofy personality and her infectious smile that was so genuine that it could light up a room.
Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 PM-4:00 PM, with the funeral service starting 4:00 PM, at T. M. Ralph Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th Street, Plantation, Florida 33317.
