Nancy Jean Burgess

d. December 31, 2024

Plantation

Nancy Jean Burgess, a beloved mother, wife, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Plantation, FL on December 31, 2024. Born in Menomonie, WI, Nancy’s vibrant spirit and infectious laughter touched everyone she met. She was the embodiment of joy, humor, and resilience throughout her remarkable life.

For 70 years, Nancy shared her life with her devoted husband, Dr. Darrell Burgess. Their union began at Naperville High School, where they first crossed paths and soon found themselves embarking on a lifelong journey full of love, laughter, and shared dreams. Together they raised four wonderful children: Brad Burgess, Susan Toole, Michael Burgess, and Dr. Robert Burgess. Each one of them carries pieces of her spirit, nurturing the legacy she has left behind.

Nancy was more than a mother; she was also a treasured mother-in-law to Dawn Burgess and Gloria Burgess. As a grandmother, she doted over her grandchildren: Caroline, Alexandra, Brandon, Sarah, Edward, Matthew, and Clayton. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, and her playful nature created countless cherished memories, living on through the laughter they all shared.

An accomplished second-grade teacher, Nancy dedicated herself to her career with unwavering passion. She loved watching her students grow and learn, just as she nurtured her own children, proving herself successful in both realms. Her proudest accomplishments remained rooted in her family, specifically raising her children and achieving multiple holes in one on the golf course—an accomplishment that brought her immense joy.

In addition to her teaching career, Nancy enjoyed a rich life filled with hobbies that brought her happiness. She loved fishing with her family, particularly on days when the fish were biting. Golf was another passion, where her competitive spirit shone brightly. Additionally, her evenings often included playing bridge with friends, where laughter filled the air.

Nancy Jean Burgess is lovingly remembered by her family and friends. In addition to her immediate family, she will be missed by the memories of her late siblings, Pat Stenger, Jim Dudley, and Joanne Branz, who preceded her in death.

Visitation services will be held on January 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Service from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at T. M.
