Oliver Smith

October 14, 1969 — April 30, 2021

Oliver Alfonso Smith, born October 14, 1969, departed from us on April 30, 2021.  In 1975, Oliver migrated to the United States from Jamaica at the tender of age six.  While Oliver was attending Evander Childs High School, he survived a car accident that left him comatose for three and a half weeks.  Oliver went on to finish high school.  After high school, he went to School of Aeronautics but due to the result from the accident Oliver was unable to sustain the knowledge and was unable to finish.  He had quite a few jobs in his lifetime; Madison Square Garden, and the airline industry in New York, just to mention a few.

Oliver relocated to Florida in 1995 and attended school for Computer Technician and again that failed him due to accident. Oliver worked in the nursing home in construction and Uber while he was working on his patent for his body stretch equipment. For those that were close to Oliver knew that he loved to invent and was always into exercising.

Oliver never smiled much but when he did, it was infectious.  The entire room would reciprocate the smile or laughed out loud.  Oliver loved to share information with his family.  I am sure that most of us can attest to his many texts with a whole lot of information.  If Oliver liked you, he would not stop calling you until you answer and the first thing he would say “Thanks for answering”.  He meant the world to his brothers and sisters and brought a unique spark into the family that only a sibling can bring.

In 2018, Oliver’s challenges were becoming concerning.  He began to have seizures and eventually was not able to drive.  The memories Oliver left with us will forever be a small ember burning within our hearts.

Oliver leaves behind, his mother Hazel; four sisters, Herma a/k/a Queenie, Barbara, Nannette “his second mother” and Carrol; three brothers, Errol, Delroy a/k/a “Michael”, and Eric a/k/a “Junior”, and a huge number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

As God called Oliver home, may the family find comfort in every flower that blooms in the Spring.
