Patricia "Patty" Stockus

May 2, 1940 — January 6, 2024

Palntation, Florida

Patricia Stockus passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, following an extended battle with multiple health conditions.  She was 83.

She was born Patricia Eliash on May 2, 1940 in Mineola, New York, to Anna and Michael Eliash, and was known affectionately as “Patty”.  She was raised in Hicksville on Long Island, where she met and married her wonderful and loving husband, Edward Stockus.  Growing up, Patty displayed a proclivity for art, winning art contests and having her works featured in NYC shop windows.

Patty and Ed moved to Florida, eventually settling in Plantation, where they lived happily for more than 30 years [until Ed’s death in 1998], raised their family, and made life-long friendships with many neighbors.  She worked in the healthcare field for 40 years.

Patty will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, for her selfless nature and unwavering commitment to those she held dear, and for a generosity that often went beyond her means.  She loved cooking, cared deeply for animals, and contributed to a number of charities.

Patty was predeceased by her husband and parents, and is survived by her son, Michael, daughter, Lisa; her sisters, Linda Eliash and Barbara Przybyszewski, and her brother, Michael Eliash.

Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia’s honor to Best Friends Animal Society (www.bestfriends.org)  and the National Resources Defense Council (www.nrdc.org).

The family is especially grateful to the doctors and staff at Kindred Hospital for the care provided to Patricia, and to Tasha Anderson in particular who, beyond the nursing care she provided, was a perfect match for the “spicyness” that Patty exhibited in her later years.
