Phyllis Ahmed, of Sunrise, Florida and formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2020 at the age of 81. Phyllis was born on September 5, 1938 in the Bronx to Ruth & Joseph Santon. She was a middle child and had two sisters - Carol and Barbara.
After her father was killed in the infamous explosion at Powder Pier, NJ, Phyllis grew very close to her grandmother who had a big influence on Phyllis’ life. Despite the early loss of her father, she was a very social and outgoing girl. Later on, her mother remarried to a wonderful loving man, Carmine, who was like a father to her for the rest of his life.
Phyllis graduated from Bergen Tech High School and became a beautician - something she was very talented at and passionate about throughout her life. She also became a Residential Real Estate agent in Poughkeepsie, NY and Sarasota, FL.
Phyllis met Michael Ahmed shortly after high school and she was married at 19 years of age. However, she fell ill with Crohn’s Disease shortly after her wedding, and she lived with this illness for the rest of her life. Despite her illness, she raised four kids which were a huge source of joy to her. Later, her family moved from Poughkeepsie to Sarasota, where her and her husband continued to raise their kids. She was always a loving Mom and put her family first.
In 1993, she moved to Charlotte, NC and absolutely fell in love with the area. She met many friends during the years she lived there, and always said the time she lived in Charlotte was one of the happiest times of her life where she had a lot of fun. She especially enjoyed her trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, and going out & dancing to her favorite decade of music - the 70’s. Phyllis always had such a strong spirit for life, and a desire to help anyone who might be down. Even in her later years, she never hesitated to help out someone in need or give what she could to others.
She is survived by four children who were her pride and joy: Michael, Lori, Paul & Lisa; their spouses Bryan, Mia and Mike; and her four beautiful grandchildren - Adam, Lindsay, Cameron & Matthew. She was someone truly unforgettable, and will never be forgotten by the friends and family who loved her.
