Rafael “Ralph” Govin, 72, resident of Broward County since 1960, died July 27, 2021.
Born in Havana, Cuba, on July 19, 1949, he graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Broward College, and Florida Atlantic University.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Candace (nee Kearney); three children and their spouses: Sean (Kathy) Govin, Marisa (Giuliano) Oliveira, and James (Mary) Govin; six grandchildren: Cate, Noah, Jack, Brooke, Will, and Lio; his siblings, Siria Tatum, Ramon Garcia-Lavin, and Cristina Rowand, and many nieces, and nephews.
Ralph Govin was one of the first paramedics in the State of Florida, retiring as a Lieutenant from the Hallandale Beach Fire Department after 20 years of service, followed by almost another 20 years with the Emergency Medicine Program at Broward College.
Above all else, he loved his wife and family. He enjoyed jogging around the Fort Lauderdale Country Club in his neighborhood and being on the water in his boat. A former standout basketball player at St. Thomas, he went on to coach at St. Gregory School where he was also a member of the Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 31st, 11:00 AM, at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church. Interment following in Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery.
