Rheta Joan Hishon, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017 in her home in Plantation, FL. Rheta was born on May 27, 1920 in Stratford, Ontario, Canada to the late Edward and Mary and is preceded in death by her husband Harold Wilfred and son Glen Patrick. Rheta was blessed with a large and loving family and she is survived by seven children, Robert Harold of Atlanta, GA; James John of Okeechobee, FL (widower of Mary Jean); Joyce Ann (Charlie) Axell of Port St. Lucie, FL; Mary Catherine Forte of Plantation, FL (widow of Rene); Harold Joseph (Theresa) of Tamarac, FL; Joan Rheta Vinas of Vero Beach, FL; Marjorie Theresa (Craig) Etts of Plantation, FL. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, a cherished brother, many nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends. Rheta was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. In addition to raising her 8 children, she helped build and was very active in the family business until her retirement. In retirement Rheta explored her desire to learn as much about this world as she could by traveling extensively across the country and abroad. She was a devout Catholic and believed in the importance of giving back to the Christian community by being a dedicated volunteer at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Everyone who was blessed to know and love Rheta will always remember her for her sincere love of God, her devotion and love for her family, her special sense of humor and her beautiful Irish eyes that glowed when she smiled. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 17th at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Plantation, FL at 1:30 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at Plantation Preserve.
