Richard Joseph Shea, born in Dorchester, MA, on December 30, 1928, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021. He joined his beloved bride of 52 years, Catherine Eleanor Shea (Murphy). He was a devoted father to Cathy Georgianna and Pa to Daniel, Caileigh, and Kyle.
Richard began a career in retail management at W.T. Grants in Massachusetts before moving to Florida in 1966.
After W.T. Grants' stores closed, he worked for F.W. Woolworth in North Miami. He retired from retail in January of 1992.
Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, a member of the 11th Airborne Infantry, as a paratrooper. Each of his 4 brothers served in the U.S. Navy, as he wasn't born with sea legs.
He was always a lover of animals having adopted and rescued many dogs and cats over the years.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen, his older brother William and is survived by his younger siblings Robert (Rosemary), Edward, Leo (Carmela), Paula (Thomas) as well as his sister-in-law Catherine and son in law Joe Georgianna. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
A socially-distanced public viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home, 7001 NW 4th Street, Plantation, Florida 33317. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 200 North University Drive, Plantation, Florida 33324. After the mass, Richard will be laid to rest at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth. The viewing and Mass will be streaming for those who prefer to virtually attend. Streaming Link
