Robert Stewart Davis was born to Harry and Gladys Davis in Rowlesburg, WV on May 20, 1917. Bob was eventually followed by brother George and sister Sue.
After graduating high school he and George enlisted together in the US Army on the same day in 1942. Bob served as a Sergeant in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, Naples, Rome, Arno and Foggia, Italy during World War II and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service ribbon. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Upon returning to the United States, he met a young war widow, Marie Tabor Andersen. They married on Valentine's Day, 1946. Following a lengthy honeymoon on Daytona Beach, Bob and Marie briefly returned to Rowlesburg before moving to Miami in 1948 on their only child Janet's first birthday.
The Lord Jesus Christ graciously saved Bob at Biscayne Gardens Baptist Church in the early 1950's. He lived his life by faith and Biblical principles, including Psalm 102:7, "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. ..." He lived a quiet life, loved his family, his co-workers and fishing.
In 1964 Bob, Marie and Janet relocated to Oakland Park where Bob's job with Steel Fabricators was located. He lived in the same home the last 54 of his 101 years.
Marie developed Parkinson's and broke her hip in 1990. Claire Zalanka became her full-time nurse caring for her until her death in 1997. Claire then cared for Janet's husband Larry until his death in 1999. By then Bob was losing his eyesight to macular degeneration and Claire became his live-in nurse/companion until February of this year. Theirs was a long and loving relationship and Claire is very much a member of the family.
Bob's survivors include his daughter Janet Lyons, 3 grandchildren, Jon Doherty (Norine), Dan Doherty (Kimm), and Sharon Doherty; 5 great-grandchildren, Nick, Alex, Belle, Dylan and Easton, and 1 great-great grandchild, Christian, and devoted companion, Claire Zalanka.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1039 NE 2nd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale FL 33304: Visitation 10 AM, Funeral 11 AM, and Burial 12:30 PM at Evergreen Cemetery.
