Robert Lee Zimmerman, 97, Professor of English, died at home with his family on Thursday, December 9, 2021. The cause of his death was metastatic melanoma. He was born July 14, 1924, in Easton, Pennsylvania, and grew up in the New Jersey suburbia. From 1944 to 1947, he served in the U.S. Army as a surgical technician in the North Pacific Theater on Shema, Adak, and Attu. He was a graduate of Lehigh University (BA), The College of Wooster (MA), and Duke University (PhD). A professor of English, he taught at Florida Southern College in Lakeland for over thirty years retiring in 1992. For almost fifty years, he was a member of the Presbyterian Chapel in the Grove. Survived by his children: Robert (Jorge), Laura, and Albert, his grandson Alexander, and his beloved Labrador Retriever, Chambray’s Archangel Michael. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Malluck Zimmerman.
