Ronald Allen Reed, 57, of Davie, FL passed away unexpectedly on August 6th, 2022.
Born to Betty and Robert Reed in Muscatine, Iowa, Ron grew up riding dirt bikes, learning to farm, fish and hunt, which instilled his love for nature and the outdoors. He attended college in Oskaloosa, Iowa at William Penn University earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and was a member of the wrestling team and Sigma Phi Sigma Fraternity.
Ron was an educator and coach, totaling 35 years of service. He began his career at Louis-Muscatine Community Schools in Iowa, worked at Glenwood School for Boys in Chicago, and spent most of his career in both private and public schools in South Florida. While he coached various sports, his true passion was wrestling, where he demanded the highest level of effort from his athletes to ensure they achieved their maximum potential. His method of coaching not only resulted in success, but also in creating life-long relationships from many of the men that he mentored. Ron received his master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University and culminated his career as the Assistant Principal at South Plantation High School.
Throughout his final 16 years as an administrator, Ron served as a role model and mentor to his peers and students. His contagious laugh and genuine smile are what his coworkers always looked forward to. He was known as the person that others went to for advice and guidance as his calm demeanor was unparalleled during critical situations. Ron spread his kindness at work through his dedication to student success and took a special interest in the Deaf and hard of hearing and homeless populations. Ron lived by the creed, “always do right by kids.”
With five children, including three children still living at home, Ron kept busy by attending every awards ceremony, numerous sporting events, and academic banquets. He took infinite pride in of all his children and applauded not only their successes but also their individuality and who they are at their core. He would tell anyone who would listen how amazing they were, and did so quite frequently. In his spare time, Ron loved watching his Iowa Hawkeyes and Buffalo Bills, listening to music, kayaking with his dog Bentley, riding his motorcycle throughout the country with his wife Kimberly, and spending time with family. Ron and Kimberly spent every vacation in the mountains of Virginia, completing their dream cabin, which they designed and were building with their own hands. Ron was methodical, simple, had a strong connection to God and lived for his next adventure.
Ron is survived by his wife Kimberly; children Zach, Ashlee, Kailyn, Jaida and Coral; siblings Vic, Nancy, Dennis and John. He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Robert; and his brother Gene.
In lieu of a funeral, family and friends gathered for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 14th at John U. Llyod State Park where approximately 200 people came to pay their respects. In true Ron fashion, his ashes will be spread throughout the country in his favorite places.
