Ruth “June” Fenton (nee Harrison) passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the age of 67, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. After fighting, tenaciously, Ruth went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In August 2009, Ruth was first diagnosed. Holding strong to her faith, Ruth began her courageous battle against this devastating disease. Ruth’s cancer went into remission for over a decade. In the Fall of 2021, Ruth’s cancer reemerged.
Ruth’s legacy will live on through all those who honor her by centering their lives in kindness. Courageous, gentle, caring, resilient, and selfless, Ruth’s kindness and generosity knew no bounds. Ruth faced her breast cancer battle with courage and dignity; to the point where many of us forgot that she was going through this hardship.
Ruth was born in Kingston, Jamaica on April 7, 1956. Ruth was raised lovingly by her paternal grandparents, Constance “Cuss” Harrison and Edward “Eddie” Harrison. In addition, Ruth’s aunt, Sybil Naldi, “Aunt Nancy,” was not only a loving aunt, but helped raise Ruth. At the age of 12, Ruth migrated to Toronto, Canada, where she lived with her mother, Daphne Williams (d. 2016).
Ruth was an avid reader and intellect. She attended the University of Toronto where she earned a B.A. in Foreign Languages in 1977. That same year, June began her professional career with American Express that spanned nearly 30 years, followed by many years of professional service at TATA, working primarily as a consultant on American Express projects, up until her passing.
On August 11, 1985, Ruth married the love of her life, Wayne Fenton. In this union, they had two daughters: Stephanie and Rebecca, born in 1986 and 1988, respectively.
In 1989, Ruth and Wayne migrated to Plantation, Florida with their daughters. Ruth continued her long and illustrious career with American Express, serving as a mentor and leader for countless employees. June attended the University of Miami where she earned her MBA in 1998.
Family meant all to Ruth, and Ruth expressed this joy through cooking signature Jamaican dishes, baking fruit cakes at Christmas time, and handing her cakes to all her extended family and friends alike. Ruth was a faithful member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church during the entirety of her many years spent living in Plantation; and Ruth sang with the “Twelve Noon” choir with passion and dedication to her Catholic faith and community.
Ruth is predeceased by her parents, Maurice Lauren Harrison (d.2001), and Daphne Williams (d.2016). She is survived by her loving husband, 2 daughters, stepdaughter, many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and countless other relatives and friends.
