Sean Patrick Hanrahan, 38, of Plantation passed away on Wednesday, November 22. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Jill; brother, Ryan (Jeannie); niece, Emma Jean; and sister, Kerri (Nicholas Eaton). Sean is the beloved grandson of Thomas and Greta Smith, of Plantation; and Betty Hanrahan, of Pompano Beach. He also leaves behind many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Sean is preceded in death by his cousin, Michael Hanrahan, 41, of Springville, AL. As a child, Sean wore a Superman cape and eventually adopted the superhero’s emblem as his own. At 6’4”, Sean was a talented defensive end for the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and earned a State Championship ring in 1997. After graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Sean played football at Auburn and UMass. When he moved back to Florida, Sean used his entrepreneurial skills to open Golden Image Tanning Salon in Fort Lauderdale. Sean enjoyed working out, reading and watching football – we know he’ll continue to cheer on the Dolphins, Canes, Auburn Tigers, Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs and Aquinas Raiders. Sean lived selflessly and always tried to help others. As a teenager, he picked up burgers for homeless people that he saw on the corner. If someone asked for money at a gas station or convenience store, Sean would offer to buy the person a few items to help them get through the day. Sean loved spending time with family (especially around the dinner table) and he cherished every minute with his niece, Emma. Strikingly handsome and larger than life, Sean always insisted on making an entrance. He would like you all to know that he is finally early to an appointment. Sean will continue to fill our hearts with joy and inspire us with his love. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you spend time with your loved ones and cherish every moment – Sean would have wanted that. Donations can be made in Sean’s name to the American Heart Association or the Broward County Humane Society. The family will be honoring Sean at T.M.
