It is with great sorrow, love, and gratitude for her life the family of Stella Lucille Michnik announces her passing on March 7th, 2024, at Pruitt Health in Fleming Island, Florida.
Stella was born in New York City on January 7th, 1925, to Anna and Stanley Novak who immigrated from Poland. Stella had an older sister Blanche and a younger brother John. Stella and her siblings grew up through the “Great Depression”, it was hard for them.
As a young woman Stella met and married the “Love of her life” John Michnik. John would wait eagerly daily to hold the door open for Stella upon her return home at her family’s apartment building. John would soon join the U.S. Navy during World War II and write many letters to Stella during his time away. John and Stella were married on December 15th, 1942. They were blessed with five children, Cindy, Gary, Pam, Debra, and Lori. Soon after Cindy and Gary were born, John bought a property in West Islip and built a home for his growing family. They lived in that home happily for many years. John and Stella were happily married for almost 40 years until John passed on September 11, 1981. Stella never remarried. Over the years she kept very busy with the blessings of seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way, plus the recent announcement of a great- great-grandchild.
Stella had many wonderful lifelong friends. She loved to cook, travel, and most of all loved visiting with family and friends. During her traveling years she visited many places including Hawaii, Poland, and Rome, where she was able to see and shake hands with Pope John Paul II, she was so thrilled and proud to have that moment! She was a member of her church, “The Catholic Daughters of the Americas”, and she also belonged to the “Red Hat Society “for many years.
My grandmother was a beautiful woman inside and out. She had a never-ending smile with beautiful sparkling blue eyes. Even though she experienced the great loss of her husband John and her two children Gary and Debra, she lived an exemplary life of joy, strength, love, honor, grace, kindness, and compassion. I have had the honor to learn from her every day!
Our family has surely suffered a tremendous loss, but our hearts will always be full of her love and treasured memories FOREVER.

My Sweet Grams.
