Susan Sienko Parrish, 72, passed away surrounded by family April 19, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to the late Theodore and Betty Sienko, on January 1, 1949, in Belleville, Michigan. Susan graduated from Belleville High School in 1967 and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Central Michigan University in 1971. Upon college graduation, the need for a warmer climate motivated her to pack up and move to South Florida. Susan’s initial plan after college was to enter the field of education but found her niche in the legal world where she worked as a legal secretary. In 1974, she married Michael T. Parrish of Pompano Beach, Florida and they chose Sunrise, Florida as their residence. On March 16, 2021, they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary in the very same home. Susan is also survived by her daughter Stacey Parrish, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and fur baby “Shadow”. Susan was a loving wife and mother. She was a choir member for the First Baptist Church of Pompano and participated in the annual singing Christmas tree during the late 70’s and early 80’s. She was an active participant in her daughter’s activities and could be found volunteering her time every day after school, assisting teachers with various art projects, chaperoning field trips, and attending the numerous sporting events. This involvement earned her recognition as Volunteer of the Year for the state of Florida and Volunteer of the Year for Broward County in 1987. Sue (Susie), as she was typically called by family and friends, was an avid reader, loved to craft, enjoyed spending time with friends and family, and most notably make candy. To most, she was known as the “candy lady” and enjoyed creating edible arrangements and gifts for special occasions. She could always be found in her “candy room” working on multiple projects at a time. A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 10-12 p.m. at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home in Plantation, Florida. An informal gathering with family and friends will follow. In lieu of sending flowers, people may make donations in support of the American Cancer Society or VITAS Healthcare.
