Sydney Clarke Minott was born in July 1, 1929 to Gwendolyn Thomas and Reginald Minott in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He grew up between Buff Bay, Portland and Cambridge St James As a young man he loved to farm. That passion for planting continued throughout his life, whether it was fruits, vegetables, flowers or other plants. Another of his passion was politics. He was a staunch PNP (Jamaica) and Democrat. In Jamaica he was very active with the party. He ran for government and became a Councilor and later a Justice of the Peace (JP) in St James. Another thing that can be said of Sydney Minott is that he was very concerned about his appearance even up to his last days. He loved to wear long sleeve shirts and dress slacks ( shirts had to have a pocket), he was always known as a sharp dresser. Also in his early years he was a limousine driver in the tourism industry in Montego Bay , Jamaica. He brags about being assigned to drive President John F Kennedy when he visited Jamaica. On September 12, 1953 he became a father to Robert who preceded him in death. In June 1960 he married Joyce Winnifred Brown with whom he had three children, Lawrence, Judy and Andrew. In 1975 after his divorce from Joyce he married Pearl Frazier and migrated to New York , USA While living in NY he worked for Coca Cola for many years. He went on to marry Margaret Hewlett. After retirement they moved from Mt Vernon NY to Port Charlotte FL In Port Charlotte he kept busy with his pride and joy which was his garden /farm He had numerous fruit trees , too many to name. He would get up at 6am put on his water boots and head straight to his back yard to do his farming. After Margaret’s death in 2013 , he relocated to Boca Raton FL and later to Coconut Creek FL. He leaves behind three children, grandchildren, sisters and a brother, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed. Walk good Sydney Clarke Minott. Burial to take place on Sunday February 28 at RestLawn Memorial Gardens 1380 Forrest Nelson Blvd, Port Charlotte, Florida 33949 at 11 AM.
