Timothy P. Smith 1946-2022 DATELINE — Timothy Paul Smith, 75, began his final voyage and adventure when he set sail to the other shore on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022. Tim was born in Youngstown, on July1, 1946, the beloved son of Paul C. and Betty McLaughlin Smith. He was a 1964 graduate of Ursuline High School and served our country as a veteran of the USAF during the Vietnam era. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami, with a bachelor's degree in business administration, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Thomas E. Flynn Award as the most outstanding student in international business. He was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi, ODK National Leadership Honorary, and president of the International Association of Students in Economics and Business. In the early years of his career, he was the director of Marketing Services for Sensormatic Electronics, product manager of ITT North Microsystems, and manager of National Accounts for OKI Electronics of America. During that time, he was also a two-time president of the Fort Lauderdale Jaycees. In 1983, he founded Technology Associates, a telecommunication consulting and auditing firm, where he was president/CEO for 15 years. For the past decade, he was a realtor/broker for yet another company he founded, TPS Realty. Tim was community minded and volunteered as a Boy Scout troop leader for decades. He was a faithful leader who mentored hundreds of people with their struggles to overcome addiction. Tim had a wild sense of humor, a love of travel and adventure, and was generous to a fault. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, and the brother he adored, Michael J. Smith. Survivors include his dearly beloved wife, Thelda “Dee” Vanover; stepson, Travis Brewer; sister Paula Smith of Franklin, N.C.; children, Paul Kelso Smith, Janet Balestreiro and Pamela Smith, all of Florida; nephew, Eric Smith of Florida; and niece, Jessica Davis of Charlotte, N.C. Tim will be interred with military honors in South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Fla on March 23, 2022 at 9:30 AM. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held.
