Vincent “Vinnie” Aversano, “The Chief,” passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at his home in Sunrise, Florida with his wife of 32-years Sally “His Buub” by his side.
Born on August 27, 1955, in Staten Island, NY. A graduate of New Dorp High School & Staten Island Community College. Vinnie was a stellar athlete. After Vinnie retired from playing, he poured his passion for sports into coaching for Pouch Terminal, Victory Van Lines, and the College of Staten Island Baseball teams. Most teams made it to the playoffs year after year as well as won multiple championships.
Vinnie met the love of his life, Sally, in 1980 and they created a beautiful life together. Vinnie was an avid Jets and Mets fan. He loved the warm Florida weather, being in the pool, spending time with his dogs, and watching games with family and friends. He and Sally loved cooking Sunday dinner together and enjoyed their yearly trips to the beach with the dogs. His humor and kindness will be missed by all.
Vinnie is preceded in death by his father, Nunzio Aversano. He is survived by his loving wife Sally (Lingg) Aversano, his fur babies Baxter Joseph & Missy Mae (aka Freshy). Mother Patricia (Stowbridge) Aversano, Sister Virginia Aversano, Brother Steven (Linda) Aversano, Sister PattyAnn (Neil) McNichol, Brother-in-Laws Harold Lingg, Tom (Susan) Wilhelmsen, Sister-in-Law Helen Ann Lingg and a tremendous number of, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends as well as a loving extended family.
Vinnie’s family will receive friends from 3-5 on Monday December 19, 2022, at T.M. Ralph Funeral Home at 371 NW 136th Avenue Sunrise, FL 33325. Memorial Service will be held immediately following visitation. In lieu of Flowers the family requests donations be made to the Lymphoma Society or Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s hospital.
