Rev. Walter D. Volz

Rev. Walter D. Volz was born on July 13, 1936, in Faribault, Minnesota. He passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, in Plantation, Florida, leaving behind a rich legacy of faith and service.

Pastor Volz is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gloria, and their children, David (Nancy) and Kristin Iannarone (Joseph). His family was deeply important to him, and his Christ-like demeanor and generous smile created lasting memories that will forever be cherished.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Oswald and Louise Volz, and six siblings, two of whom were also Lutheran pastors. Walt's powerful presence and unwavering faith will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Walter was a remarkable force for Jesus, impacting countless lives over the years with his big, booming voice that echoed across congregations. For 21 years he served as pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Plantation, where his dedication to ministry and community shone brightly. His commitment to spreading the message of Christ began long before his time in Florida, as he was part of various ministries in North and South Carolina.

Pastor Volz devoted 20 years as a speaker for Food For The Poor, tirelessly working to alleviate the suffering of those in need. His selflessness and compassion extended beyond the church; he proudly served his nation for 30 years in the Navy Reserve and acted as the chaplain for the Plantation Fire Department for two decades, providing comfort and guidance during challenging times.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the T. M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home, located at 7001 NW 4th St, Plantation, FL 33317. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 8001 NW 5th St, Plantation, FL 33324. 

Memorials in Pastor Volz's honor may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or Food for the Poor.
