William A. May

William Allen May, 65, passed away March 1, 2020 with his family by his side. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. William was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 24th 1954. His family moved to South Florida when he was a young boy. He was a part of the first graduating class of South Plantation High School in 1973.  

 

He met his wife, Cathy, in 1980 and the two became married on May 2nd, 1981.  During their 38 years of marriage they had 3 children Brian, Katelyn, and Erin as well as 3 granddaughters Isabella, Anna, and Elizabeth.  

 

William was deeply involved in his church community at Our Savior Lutheran Church and School in Plantation FL since 1981. Over the years he served as an usher, worship assistant, member of the properties committee, and served as vice president of the congregation from 2017-2019.

He worked in the Marine Industry since the 1980's, most recently as the purchasing agent for the parts department at Rolly Marine Service in Ft. Lauderdale. 

 

He enjoyed bowling, playing golf, watching football and NASCAR (in between naps), and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy, his children, Brian May (Mary), Katelyn Thielen (Michael), and Erin May; his granddaughters, Isabella and Elizabeth May and Anna Thielen; his mother Patricia May and step-father Buddy; his sisters Regina Sivertsen (Chuck), Peggy Mcray (Terry), Sharon May; his brothers James May, David May (Josie), Russell May, John May (Debbie), Justin May, and Travis May (Kim), as well as, 28 nieces and nephews. 

 

A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Plantation, FL on Sunday, March 8th at 2 PM.  Flowers and donations may be sent to the church. Any donations in his name will go towards the church and school properties fund.
