William Thomas Yarrow, fondly known as Bill, was born on November 11, 1946, in Amityville, New York. He lived a life rich in experiences and marked by a profound dedication to education and community service. Bill passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024 in Plantation, Florida, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Bill’s educational journey began with a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY - Oneonta, which laid the foundation for a lifelong commitment to teaching. He started his notable career in the Peace Corps, serving in Grenada, where he fell in love with the Caribbean and its beautiful culture. Following his time in the Peace Corps, Bill devoted 26 years to teaching English at Charlotte Amalie High School in St. Thomas, USVI. He took immense pride in making a difference in the lives of his students, an accomplishment of which he was particularly proud. Even in retirement, he demonstrated his unwavering commitment to civic duty by working as a poll worker for elections right up until a few weeks prior to his passing.
In addition to his teaching career, Bill cherished his personal interests and hobbies. He loved the beach and spent much of his life enjoying the tranquil, turquoise waters of the Caribbean. A dedicated fan, he looked forward to watching Jeopardy every night, and he made the most of his time at Hollywood Beach by playing paddle ball.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria L. Yarrow; his daughter, Charlotte E. Yarrow; and his stepdaughter, Simone F. Roach. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the memories he created with those who knew him and loved him.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel Yarrow and William Yarrow. His absence is deeply felt, but the impact he had on his family, friends, and students will resonate for years to come.
