E.J. Generotti, born in Jessup, Pennsylvania on August 17, 1952, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2021. The “light of his life,” as he said, were his wife of 41 years, Debra, and their children, Jason and Stephanie. A graduate of Scranton Preparatory School and the University of Scranton, he moved to Florida in 1974 to attend law school at Nova Southeastern University, graduating in the inaugural class. E.J. practiced law for over 40 years and proved to be a brilliant jurist and writer throughout his illustrious career.
E.J. was an accomplished race car driver, competing in world renowned events including the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona. In 1991, he became the SCCA’s Florida Region Champion. Later, he became Jason’s chief Formula Ford mechanic and engineer culminating in a podium finish in the 2015 SCCA Runoffs.
E.J. was the best storyteller and possessed a character and charisma that would make any stranger an immediate friend. He gave back to his community by serving as the City of Plantation’s Hockey Commissioner and youth hockey coach, and was instrumental in bringing the roller hockey rinks to Central Park. He enjoyed driving his Porsche 997, riding motorcycles, reading history books, cheering on the Florida Panthers, watching Formula 1, listening to the Grateful Dead, and walking down Las Olas with Debbie.
E.J.’s family was everything to him. Anyone in his presence would immediately feel the pride and admiration he felt for his children. E.J. always knew how to bring a smile to Debbie, Jason, and Stephanie’s faces, even with something as small as a thumbs up or a "Ciao." Most of all, E.J. enjoyed summers at his favorite place, Moosic Lake, Pennsylvania, with his family and friends.
E.J. is survived by Debbie, Jason (Kristen), Stephanie (Nathan), his grand critters, Indy and Turk, his siblings, Rebecca (Thomas), Bruce (Linda), Allan (Susan), and Mary (Jeffrey) along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
